1. Charitable Deduction Changes

Starting in 2026, charitable deductions shift for both itemizers and non-itemizers.
Highlights:

  • New 0.5% AGI limitation

  • New deduction for non-itemizers: $1,000 (single) / $2,000 (married)

2. SALT Cap & Itemized Deduction Limits

High-income taxpayers face new SALT phaseouts and deduction caps—creating sharp spikes in effective marginal rates.

  • SALT cap temporarily increases to $40,000 but phases out above $500,000 AGI

  • More room for Roth conversions and strategic withdrawals in 2026


4. Temporary Additional Senior Deduction

A new $6,000 deduction for taxpayers 65+ applies from 2025–2028—subject to AGI-based phaseouts.
